ABOUT US
This project was put together by graduate students at UC Santa Barbara in Spring of 2017 as part of the class GRAD 210: Teaching Theory to Practice.
ELIZABETH
AUGUST-SCHMIDT
Elizabeth is a doctoral candidate in plant ecology whose research focuses on the effects using nitrogen-fixing trees in restoration of Hawaiian dry forest. She gathered many of the recommendations for promoting gender diversity in the STEM classroom and resurrected our site from the ashes of Wikispaces.
LUCAS
BANG
Lucas is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Harvey Mudd College. He works on automated verification of software with applications to information security. He primarily wrote the page on how gender imbalance in STEM happens.
JAMIE
BOOTH
Jamie is a doctoral candidate in Mechanical Engineering at UC Santa Barbara, whose research focus is gecko-inspired adhesive materials. He was partially responsible for background research, particularly on self-efficacy and stereotype threat, and wrote the page 'Why does gender diversity in STEM matter?'.
TAKAKO
HIROKAWA
Takako is an Electrical Engineering PhD student. Her research interests include developing an all-optical photonic switch for data centers and optical modulators for analog communications. She was responsible for the page on gender statistics and contributed some of the links found on the Resources page.
